The Man:
Jon Hassler was a teacher, painter and of course, a nationally acclaimed author. He wrote over 15 novels including "Staggerford", "Grand Opening", "Rookery Blues", "The "Love Hunter" and "Green Journey" which was made into a television movie starring Angela Lansbury. He took on the role of Writer-in-Residence at Saint John's University in 1980 and later became a Regent's Professor. He retired from there in 1997. Jon received many literary recognitions including, the John Simon Guggenheim Foundation Fellowship, the Minnesota State Arts Board Fellowship and the Saint John's Colman Barry Award for Distinguished Contributions to Religion and Society. Central Lakes College, formerly Brainerd Community College, is where Jon spent 12 years as an English instructor. This is where his writing career really took off and where he worked at the time his first book was published. The college renamed the library the Jon Hassler Library in 2008 and on May 16th, the Jon Hassler Library received the designation as a National Literary Landmark. The Jon Hassler Library is home to some of Jon's artifacts and copies of early writings.
Activities will be in the Chalberg Theatre and registration will be in the hallway just outside the Challberg Theatre. Central Lakes College is located at the following address:
Park in the north lot and come in door #4 and follow the signs once inside. (After entering door 4 you will take a slight left towards the courtyard and then a right. This will lead you right to the Chalberg Theatre.

This exciting opportunity is designed for those in education as well as for those who just want to learn more about this famous Minnesota celebrity and his heart-felt writings. For those looking at getting documentation for their professional development, participants can also register and pay for CEU certificates or a graduate credit (awarded by the School of Education at the College of St. Scholastica.) The certificate will be an additional $5 and the graduate credit will be $125 on top of the conference fee. The conference fee is required for all participants. Those interested in the additional professional development options will be registered and given directions for payment on day one of the conference. See Kari at the registration table at the start of the conference.

The price for participating in the Hassler Festival is $100 which includes activities on both days as well as some meals. Please see the TENTATIVE ITINERARY for more information. There are two ways in which you may register for this event: online, or by mail. The registration deadline is June 10, 2015.

You can also register for the Festival by completing the online registration (complete with secure online payment) through the ONLINE REGISTRATION FORM. Although it may appear you are signing up for a class through the Business & Industry center, this online registration form is for the conference. You do not have to sign up for any CEU's or graduate credit to participate in the conference*. You do however, still need to pay the $100 conference fee. This online registration site, allows you to do your registration for the conference electronically without having to mail in a form to the above address. Follow these tips:

For an additional $5 paid at the beginning of the conference a certificate of 1.6 CEU credits can be prepared for those that attend the full conference. This can be taken care of at the conference registration at the beginning of the conference.
If attendees are interested in participating in the conference for a graduate credit, one will be available through the College of St. Scholastica School of Education. Those interested should register and pay the $100 conference fee (mail in form above or register for conference using online site linked above) before the June 10 deadline. In addition to the $100 conference fee, interested participants will be responsible for paying the College of St. Scholastica School of Education $125 for the graduate credit. Instructions will be provided at the conference registration table on day on for how to register for the graduate credit and steps to pay the $125 graduate credit fee. It is not necessary to pay for the graduate credit before the start of the conference however, keep in mind all participants (those seeking a grad credit, CEU credit, or just attending the conference) must be registered for the conference by June 10.
